This post has been submitted by the GSF Agriculture Program director, Anousse Paul, on the ground at Ile-A-Vache. Here, he summarizes the achievements of the agriculture program over the last year.

Exciting activities have been ongoing at the La Hatte school! While the upper level of the school is under construction and coming along very nicely, the students have been busy with activities!

We have great progress to report in our continued efforts to expand and improve the school facilities we provide the children of our communities.

Unfortunately, because of the rolling crisis situation that has been affecting Haiti, hunger is becoming more common across the nation. This affects every Haitian, including people in the communities of Île à Vache and Petit Goâve, where GSF works.

In the final part of 2022, GSF agronomist Anousse Paul continued his impressive work to provide a resilient backbone of food production for the community of Ile A Vache and our La Hatte school.

We are proud to be able to say that IMECT school building, which was sorely needed and under construction, has now been completed!

Even in the midst of one of the most difficult periods in Haiti’s recent history, our GSF team is continuing to make a major difference in the lives of people in the communities where we work.

The GSF cassaverie (cassava bakery) that was recently brought into operation is already have a huge impact thanks to your continuing support.

We’re thrilled to announce that both our schools achieve a 100% pass rate for ninth grade in the national exams!

It’s difficult to know at the moment where things stand with schools in Haiti - after 5 months of a COVID pause, despite very few cases in Haiti, and only one on Île à Vache

We are happy to announce a $1000 donation our program fighting malnutrition on Ile a Vache! The gift comes from Sequoia Sun and friends, frequent visitors to Ile A Vache by boat.

As the coronavirus pandemic has developed worldwide, it has remained difficult to have a clear picture of COVID-19 in Haiti.

Although the coronavirus pandemic continues to pose problems in Haiti, and schools remain closed, including the GSF school on Île à Vache, our sustainable agriculture program is running strong in the midst of the crisis.

Although the coronavirus and ensuing shut down of normal life in Haiti and around the world has forced GSF to close our schools for the time being, on Île à Vache we have committed to continuing our school feeding program by transitioning to food distribution to students’ homes
