As recent crises continue in Haiti and internationally, the importance of a secure food supply has become ever clearer. The ability of the agriculture programs to continue food production for our students during the COVID crisis has demonstrated this clearly. Now, recent Haitian government policies have created an inflation problem that makes food prices and markets even more unstable. Local food production, and food security, are more important than ever.

That is why GSF is proud to share the news that our sustainable agriculture program has actually expanded production during this year of crisis. We have added two new fields to production, and a new agronomist, Esther Calixte. She now joins with GSF agronomist Anousse Paul and our two foremen, Papoute and Pedro, and four other workers in producing food for our school feeding program.

Problems with supply, prices, and uncertainty over the political situation and public health in the time of coronavirus all make conditions difficult in Haiti and on Île à Vache, but our team has persevered. With your generous support, we can continue growing food locally for the food security of our children. Thank you!
