Educating for the future

Free education

Our education program focuses on providing free education at our two schools. The IMECT school, located near the mountain of Morne Tapion near Petit Goâves, has over 320 students, and the La Hatte school on the island of Île à Vache also has 350 students. At the La Hatte school, we provide a free daily lunch program which is an important part of the students’ nutrition and helps ensure their success. Our schools provide three years preschool for a complete primary and secondary education for students aged 3 to 15. Recently, we have completed a rebuilding of the IMECT school building, which was housed in a temporary building since the 2010 earthquake. Now, we are proud to say, a full new school building has been completed and is in use!

Community education

In addition to our two primary schools, we provide a number of additional educational opportunities for people in the communities we serve. To improve the economic opportunities of adults in the community, we provide scholarships to students to continue their education at university, and provide scholarships with board and lodging to trade schools in trades such as masonry. Our schools also offer libraries of books for children in French and Kreyol, and extracurricular activities like swimming lessons in the sea. Our goal is to provide education services not only to our primary school students for their basic education, but to help meet the educational needs of the community as a whole.
