Seated in the village of Le Haite, a series of tin roofs held up by tree limbs, is the acting facility for sixty plus students who have been given a second chance to create a better life for themselves. All people of this island are underprivileged but it is the focus of the Good Samaritan foundation to help the ‘underprivileged’ of the underprivileged. These are a group of people who do not have a chance of survival without Gods hand of mercy. The school consists of children of cast outs and un-wed mothers, orphans, and people who cannot afford to send their children to the schools that require tuition. There is no public school system on the island to attend to the needs of these children, making Good Samaritan School the only other option for these children to receive any form of education whatsoever. The school has several educational tracts. The goal is to teach reading, writing, and arithmetic. Due to the changing times, it is also necessary to teach the languages that are being used in their working environment, primarily French and English. The primary goal of their education is to teach the children of Il Le Vache survival in all of its versatile points, from health and hygiene, to agriculture and fishing. From auto mechanics and masonry to common social skills and civil etiquette. |
